Consent is a contract and contract establishes law. The sadist is interested only in the destruction of law and the raising of institutions which gratify him and him alone. Perhaps the colloquial S&M, a misnomer but one with a referent, would have been better. Or BDSM, which compounds the misnaming offense but further stabilises the referent…
